THE YOUTH BRASS BAND OF THE MUSIC SCHOOL IN JESENÍK /EN/

The band was founded in 1971. The founder was Vladimír Vraňovský who was also its artistic leader for over 30 years. František Mech took over the role of artistic leader from July 2001 until October 2005. Nowadays the band is led by Tomáš Uhlíř and the second conductor is Milan Domes.

Over the years the number of members has increased to 75. The total number of its members since the creation of the band amounts over 400 musicians. The band has staged over 1000 compositions and has held over 1200 performances to date. The focal point of the repertoire covers compositions written by contemporary Czech composers with whom the band cooperates closely with. At concerts can be heard more and more songs by foreign authors of contemporary symphony brass music, transcription by authors of classical music, songs from musicals or from popular music.The band regularly participates in festivals and competitions, not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. Since 1974 it has represented the Music School, the town Jeseník and the Czech Republic in Germany, Slovakia, The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Bulgaria, Norway, Italy, France, Spain, Hungary, Croatia, Mexico, Lithuania, Greece, Austria, Tunisia and China.

  • 1978 The Netherlands /Purmerend/ - 1st prize in the international competition of youth brass bands
  • 1981 Belgium /Neerpelt/ - 1st prize “Cum Laude” in the European competition of youth brass bands
  • 1982 Germany /Rostock/ - 1st prize in the European competition of youth brass bands
  • 1985 Norway /Hamar/ - the absolute winner in the world competition of brass bands
  • 1992 Belgium /Izegem/ - 1st prize in the European competition of brass bands
  • 1998 Germany /Bösel/ - 1st prize in the international competition of youth brass bands
  • 2000 the Czech Republic /Kolín/ - the gold award and title of the absolute winner in the international marching competition
  • 2001 Mexico - concert tour
  • 2002 Slovakia /Trenčín/ - the gold award in the international competition of brass bands
  • 2002 Poland /Leszno/ - the gold award and Grand Prix for the absolute winner in the international competition of brass bands
  • 2003, 2005 The Czech Republic /Ostrava/ - the gold award in the international competition of brass bands
  • 2004 The Czech Republic /Děčín/ - “the Golden Note” with the award in the international competition of brass bands
  • 2006 Germany /Bösel/ - the outright winner in the international competition of brass bands and majorettes
  • 2008 Hungary /Mór/ - the gold award in the international competitive festival
  • 2009 The Czech Republic /Ostrava/ - the gold award in the international competition of brass bands + the jury award for the best performed compulsory composition
  • 2011 The Czech Republic /Ostrava/ - the gold award in the international competition of brass bands
  • 2012 Poland /Rybnik/ - Grand Prix “the Golden Lyre” in the international competitive festival of brass bands
  • 2012 Spain /Malgrat de Mar/ - 1st prize in the international competitive festival of brass bands
  • 2014 Hungary /Mór/ - the gold award in the international competitive festival
  • 2015 China - Shanghai Tourism Festival

In autumn 2007 the band recorded its first CD in a recording studio.

In addition the band is the main promoter of the International Festival of Brass Bands held biennially in Jeseník at either the end of June or the beginning of July.

A group of majorettes has always belonged to the band. Since 1979 The Dance Movement Group, led by Marta Jurková, cooperated with the band. From 1996 to 2009 the band had its own majorette group; the leaders were Alena Šmerdová, Kateřina Jochcová, Jana Sychrová and Ivona Orlová.

Since 2010 the band cooperates with ´SZUŠ taneční s.r.o. Jeseník´. The band’s performance is further enhanced with the “Crazy Girls” majorettes, led by Zuzana Fritscherová.
